Partner

Clay grew up in the backwoods of North Louisiana, in a small community called Pistolthicket.  There wasn’t much to do in Pistolthicket, so Clay grew up playing a lot of sports.  His high school athletic career included being named to the Louisiana all-state football, baseball and track teams earning him a football scholarship to LSU where he played both football and baseball.  After college, Clay received offers to play baseball and football at the professional level.  After declining an offer from the Dallas Cowboys, Clay elected to play baseball and signed a contract with the Seattle Mariners.  While playing for Seattle’s minor league club in Chattanooga, he met his wife, Barbara.  It was also during his time in the minor leagues, and later in the major leagues, he began helping his teammates by sharing his knowledge of financial planning and investments.  Clay’s major league baseball pitching career included time with the Seattle Mariners, the Detroit Tigers, and the New York Yankees.

After rehabbing from what proved to be a career ending surgery, Clay retired from professional baseball in 1995 and soon after officially began his work as a Financial Advisor.  After successfully completing the Merrill Lynch training program he joined Truist Bank (formerly SunTrust Bank) as a member of their Trust and Investment Services division in Chattanooga.  He left Truist in 2002 and joined another local Chattanooga registered investment advisory firm holding several different roles over the next 20 years.  Over his more than 25-year career in wealth management, Clay has developed a following of many loyal and trusted clients and he looks forward to continuing to serve them as a member of the Patton Albertson & Miller team.
